Return to Internet & Intranet Overview
Phase 1: Initial Presence
Phase 2: In-Depth Content
Phase 3: Advanced Applications
| A Phased Project Approach |
Here's an example of the scope of a three-phase plan for a typical web site project.
Phase 1: Initial Presence |
Phase 1 establishes an initial site with basic content and features such as:
- company background
- general product/services information
- events/calendar
- contact information
- some pointers to related sites
- simple comment and order forms
- e-mail link
- tracking and reporting page hits (user visits)
Phase 2: In-Depth Content |
Phase 2 builds on Phase 1 content, providing
more extensive features and information such as:
- Detailed information about your company, clients and staff
- Detailed product/service information (catalogs, data sheets, specs)
- Live product demos
- Webinars (web-based seminars)
- Customer support information (FAQs, app sheets, tech notes)
- Download of software or data updates and extensions
- Papers and articles
- In-depth surveys
- Database integration
Phase 3: Advanced Applications |
Phase 3 adds value for the site's users/visitors, and significantly reduces time and cost for producing and updating web site content. These objectives are achieved with the addition of new capabilities such as:
- Interactive forms which provide customized responses to user input (see Forms-Based Applications)
- Multimedia (animation, sound and video) to better attract, educate and support existing and potential customers
- Automation of web content production (see Forms-Based Applications)
- Multi-Channel publishing and delivery (integration of web content production with content production for other delivery channels - print, CD-ROM, etc.)
